Since its launch Shift has convened to share knowledge and discuss ways the arts organisations in Liverpool can work together to reduce the sector’s carbon footprint. By the end of 2025 we expect members of Shift to reach a standard of practice through the following pledges:

Actively participate in the Shift network. We expect your organisation to attend at least 4 members meetings per year, share new knowledge and practice, and advocate for positive environmental change in the cultural sector.

Publish and communicate your environmental commitments. Be open about your organisation’s aims and commitments, such as making yourenvironmental statement public on your website and sharing on social media what changes you’re making across your work.

Ensure all employees understand your environmental commitments. This ranges from including an environmental statement ininduction documents to providing Carbon Literacy training and investing inspecialist skills development.

Establish a Green Team or Ambassador in your organisation. Within your organisation they will be increasing engagement on environmentalissues internally and working with senior management to standardiseenvironmental practices.

Record data on Energy, Waste and Water annually. This is crucial for creating a target driven plan, identifying where your efforts are best placed for improving your environmental actions.

Adopt a suitable carbon reduction framework by 2025. Projects such as Theatre Green Book, Gallery Climate Coalition and Low Carbon Eco Innovatory provide comprehensive tools that will help you develop a planfor decarbonising your buildings, operations and productions.
